CERAMIC CROWNS + BRIDGES

Dr. Lowry believes in creating a high quality experience with long lasting results. For this reason, our office uses non-metal ceramic crowns and bridges for individuals in need of a metal crown replacement or those suffering from severely broken down teeth.

IMPLANTS

Each year millions of Americans experience tooth loss for various reasons. Some of the most common reasons for tooth loss include decay, injury, and periodontal disease.

While there are other options to treat tooth loss such as bridges or dentures, dental implants are a more comfortable, sustainable solution to filling the gap.

IMPLANTS FAQ’S

  • Dental implants are artificial tooth roots made of biocompatible materials, such as titanium, surgically placed in the jawbone to support a replacement tooth, bridge, or denture. They offer a permanent and natural-looking solution for missing teeth.

    • One or more missing teeth.

    • Healthy gums and sufficient jawbone to support the implant.

    • Good oral hygiene habits.

    • Overall good health to undergo a minor surgical procedure.

  • With proper care, dental implants can last a lifetime. Regular dental visits, good oral hygiene, and avoiding habits like smoking or teeth grinding can extend their lifespan.

    • Consultation: Your dentist evaluates your oral health and bone structure with X-rays or CT scans.

    • Implant Placement: The implant is surgically placed into the jawbone.

    • Healing Period: The jawbone fuses with the implant in a process called osseointegration, which can take a few months.

    • Abutment and Crown Placement: A small connector (abutment) is attached to the implant, followed by a custom crown for a natural look and function.

  • The procedure is typically performed under local anesthesia, ensuring minimal discomfort. Most patients report only mild soreness after the surgery, which can be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers.

  • Dental implants are a durable, long-lasting solution that mimics the look and function of natural teeth. Unlike dentures or bridges, implants preserve jawbone health and don’t rely on neighboring teeth for support.

NITROUS OXIDE SEDATION

Nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas or happy gas, helps to reduce the feelings of pain or anxiety during cleanings or dental procedures.

Because Dr. Lowry puts such a strong emphasis on patient care and comfort, we offer Nitrous oxide sedation as an option for all dental procedures.

DENTURES

Simply put, dentures are removable replacement teeth. While dentures can take some getting used to, they are an economic and natural looking solution to tooth loss.

There are two main types of dentures without implants— Full dentures and partial dentures. At Smile St. Pete Dentistry, we offer both!

DENTURES FAQ’S

  • Dentures are removable appliances designed to replace missing teeth and surrounding tissues. They restore your ability to eat, speak, and smile confidently while improving your oral health and appearance.

      • Full Dentures: Replace all teeth in the upper or lower jaw.

      • Partial Dentures: Replace a few missing teeth and attach to the remaining natural teeth.

      • Implant-Supported Dentures: Anchored to dental implants for enhanced stability and function.

  • Dentures typically last 5-10 years. Over time, they may need adjustments, relining, or replacement due to wear or changes in your jawbone and gum tissue.

  • Modern dentures are crafted to look natural and fit comfortably. They are customized to match your gums and resemble natural teeth in color, size, and shape.

    • Remove and clean your dentures daily with a soft brush and denture cleaner.

    • Soak them in water or a denture solution when not in use.

    • Brush your gums, tongue, and any remaining natural teeth to maintain oral health.

  • It’s generally recommended to remove dentures at night to allow your gums to rest and prevent bacteria buildup. Your dentist will advise based on your specific needs.

TMJ DISORDERS

TMJ is the abbreviated term for the temporomandibular joint. This joint can be described as a hinge that connects your lower jaw to your skull, allowing you to freely move your mouth, talk, yawn, and chew food. When individuals experience problems within the jaw and facial muscles which control it, this is an indicator of a temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD).

At Smile St. Pete Dentistry, TMJ screenings are an essential part of our comprehensive dental exams. Whether or not you have a TMJ Disorder, Dr. Lowry will be sure to set you up for success in regards to prevention and management.

FULL MOUTH REHABILITATION

Full-mouth rehabilitation, otherwise known as full-mouth reconstruction, is not categorized as a single dental treatment, rather, a variety of treatments performed over time to achieve a healthy mouth, esthetically and functionally.

Depending on your specific needs and concerns, Dr. Lowry will develop a personalized treatment plan that identifies problems, including tooth wear, missing teeth, pain, terminal dentition and more.

“Best people, great and relaxing atmosphere. Definitely the best dentist office I've ever been to and I'll never change my dentist office again.”
